bio

From oratorio with Providence Baroque to avant-garde opera at Opéra de Lille, baritone Ziqi Fang explores the full expressive spectrum of the voice across concert, operatic, ensemble, and chamber music stages. Winner of the 2025 Brown University Concerto Competition and the 2024 Rhode Island Civic Chorale and Orchestra Vocal Competition, he appears frequently as a concert soloist with ensembles including Providence Baroque, Rhode Island Civic Chorale and Orchestra, and Brown University Orchestra.
On the operatic stage, Ziqi will portray the roles of Simone (Gianni Schicchi) and Vittorio (I due timidi) with the Peabody Opera Theatre in the upcoming season. A committed interpreter of 20th- and 21st-century music, he was an ensemble member in the production of Karlheinz Stockhausen's Montag aus Licht at Opéra de Lille in collaboration with Le Balcon.
As an ensemble vocalist, Ziqi has appeared at the Boston Symphony Hall, Philharmonie de Paris, and Grande Halle de la Villette, and broadcast by Radio France. He currently sings with the Peabody NEXT Vocal Ensemble, focusing on works ranging from the Renaissance to contemporary literature. His extensive ensemble credits include performances with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, Chœur de l'Orchestre de Paris, Collegium Ancora, and Brown University Chorus.
A classically trained violinist with a multitude of orchestral and chamber music experiences, Ziqi's instrumental background deeply informs his musicality, interpretive sensitivity, and stage presence as a vocalist. His interpretation is guided by acute chamber music listening, intricate counterpoint, and an instinct for collaborative tuning. The dual discipline also situates him perfectly in 20th- and 21st-century repertoire, where his instrumental ear is adapted to pitch architecture, microtonal inflection, and complex rhythmic units.
Ziqi is currently pursuing his Master of Music in Voice at the Peabody Institute. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music, Math, and Computer Science from Brown University and was a Research Intern at CERN (European Center for Nuclear Research). He has also worked as an Academic Coach at Brown's Curricular Resource Center and is deeply passionate about holistic and neurodiversity-informed peer mentorship.
